Delaware County Council joined District Attorney Kat Copeland, Captain Michelle Conte with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and various members of law enforcement during its July 24 council meeting to announce local participation in National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer and strengthen the community.

National Night Out was founded in 1984 by Lower Merion resident and Town Watch volunteer, Matt Peskin. 35 years later, millions of residents take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. This year’s event takes place on August 6. Neighborhoods host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much more.

This year seven police departments in Delaware County are participating including Haverford, Lansdowne, Marcus Hook, Marple, Springfield, Upland and Upper Darby. Council commended those involved in planning the local Night Out events and noted that National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement and strengthens the sense of community in Delaware County.

Haverford: 6pm-9pm Quarry Center (116 W. Township Line Rd. Havertown)
