Delaware County offered drive-thru and walk-up COVID-19 testing for residents on May 21 and 22 in the parking lot of Upper Darby High School. Over the two-day span, the County was able to test 259 residents free of charge.

Residents over the age of 18 with COVID-19 symptoms and/or known exposure were eligible to be tested, especially those at higher risk including residents over the age of 65 and those with pre-existing health conditions. Critical and essential workforce were a priority for getting testing. These individuals include first responders, healthcare system employees, grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential workers.

The free public testing site was coordinated by Delaware County Council, the County’s Department of Emergency Services and the County’s Department of Intercommunity Health, with assistance from the Chester County Health Department. The site was staffed by volunteers from the Citizen Corps of Delaware County, which includes the Delaware County Medical Reserve Corps. Over 240 volunteers participated, the largest single deployment in its ten-year history.

“Thank you to the Citizen Corps of Delaware County who volunteered their time and worked on the frontlines to assist our community during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Delaware County Council Vice Chair Dr. Monica Taylor. “Council commends them for their dedication during this pandemic, as well as throughout the year as they serve our residents. Their mission is to “do the greatest good for the greatest number,” and they exemplified the meaning of community volunteerism over the last few months. We also extend our thanks to the Upper Darby School District for offering their high school parking lot and assisting with the coordination.”

Residents who were tested will have their results within 5-7 business days. Residents will be contacted based on the contact information provided on the registration.

Additional COVID-19 public testing sites in Delaware County are being added and will be announced. More information on COVID-19 testing, symptoms, and resources can be found here: www.delcopa.gov/ich/resources/coronavirus.html
