Delaware County Championing Sustainability through Composting Agreement with Mother Compost

In 2023, Delaware County adopted its first sustainability plan Sustain Delco, which outlines goals and actions for a more sustainable Delaware County.

In the plan, Delaware County set an aspirational goal of achieving Zero Waste both in county operations and within the community. Composting was among the many actions identified in the plan.

To push these plans forward, we began composting at our County cafeteria, Capozzoli Café’ in January, and have already diverted 4,000 pounds of food waste from ending up in a landfill.

To learn more about how Delaware County is turning food waste info nutrient rich compost with the help of Mother Compost and Linvilla Orchards, check out NBC10’s Tim Furlong’s news story that aired last week.
