Job Opening: Senior Environmental Planner

Scheduled Hours: 8:30 – 4:30 Monday through Friday, 37.5 hours per week; air-conditioned office; out-of-office meetings and site visits; occasional night meetings
The Environmental Senior Planner is responsible for carrying out and taking the lead on tasks including research, report preparation, and outreach for activities as set forth in the Department Work Program.
Under general supervision of the Environmental Manager:
Prepares natural resource, coastal zone, sewage facilities, hazard mitigation, and other environmental plans as requested
Provides work guidance to Planners and Interns, as required
Prepares environmental components of municipal and/or multi-municipal comprehensive plans
Participates in regional environmental and watershed group committees
Presents at regional meetings, conferences, and local events
Performs state-mandated sewage facilities planning module reviews
Develops grant applications
Provides technical assistance to municipalities concerning environmental issues and programs
Responds to public inquiries regarding environmental issues
Master’s degree in planning or related field, plus 2 years of experience; or bachelor’s degree in planning or related field, plus 4 years of applicable experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work in a team environment on a wide range of projects involving both public and private interests is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills; research skills; organizational and time management skills; familiarity with the planning process at the local level. Working knowledge of AGOL is a plus.
