HOW TO ORDER A COPY OF A PROBATED WILL OR PROBATE RECORD?

Orders are placed online, take 14 business days to process, and then are placed in the U.S. mail. Orders may be placed at https://delcopa.gov/row/ecopies.html which has a full list of our offerings. Here is a partial list of our offerings for your convenience:

E-Copy Will $10.00 (filled by email)
This request provides a PDF copy of the Will used in the probate proceeding. For estates that have already been probated in our office, we retain a record of the will used in the probate proceeding, and a copy of that is what you receive. We do not keep copies of all wills across the county that have NOT ALREADY been through the probate process, just the wills that have been brought to us in connection with probating an estate. We unfortunately cannot provide a copy of a will that was never presented to us. Therefore, we also do not have the information to tell you whether a will exists for a given individual whose estate did not go through probate in our office. But we would be happy to provide a PDF copy of the Will that was submitted to our office after the individual passed away and when the appropriate individual submitted the Will to our office.

HOW TO SEARCH FOR A COPY OF A PROBATED WILL OR PROBATE RECORD?

Online Records Search: Probated Estates
The Register of Wills office now offers all members of the public the ability to search probated estates and data fields (but not images of documents) of our records anytime for free by proceeding to our portal, clicking the LOGIN AS GUEST button (no username/password is required), selecting Search Public Records option, selecting Case Names, and searching for your record. This eliminates the need for individuals to pay and wait for an estate name search that they would rather do themselves. It will also cut down on the number of instances when a document is ordered in error, as users can first check to determine if the document is in our records. We are not offering images of documents at this time due to privacy concerns, but users can still proceed with a purchase of a document that we have by proceeding to Online Ordering of Copies. For a video walkthrough of how to use this service, please view the Searching for Probated Estates Online video.
