Case aides administratively support attorneys and receive visitors to the Office of the Public Defender. The Office of the Public Defender is seeking an organized, personable, patient, and resourceful person to fulfill this critically important position.
Under the direction of the Case Aide Manager the case aide performs a variety of duties that include:
Welcoming all visitors to the Office of the Public Defender including clients & their family members, attorneys, and any other guests to the office.
Conducting intake interviews to determine eligibility for services.
Making copies of paperwork brought in by defendants.
Entering client information into case management software and opening case files.
Ordering hearing and 911 transcripts.
Assisting with file maintenance, case tracking, and organizing materials for court.
Preparing conflict petitions, letters, and other documents.
Answering phone calls and messages, ascertaining the nature of the call, and directing caller to appropriate person, & providing information within authorized limits.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Prior experience in a high-volume customer service position.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Strong verbal and written communication skills (Spanish fluency preferred).
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
Ability to interact positively with colleagues and a wide spectrum of the public.
