This position is responsible for providing direct assistance to the incarcerated person population on an individual basis to assist them within the legal system. This position works as a liaison with other criminal justice stakeholders and proactively addresses challenges.
Works with the incarcerated population to determine individual needs including, but not limited to:
Coordination and collaboration with probation/parole.
Verifying address for release with the courts.
Identifying and assisting with re-integration needs and makes referrals as appropriate.
Coordination with the courts for upcoming hearings as necessary.
Reviews the offender management system to ensure all information is correct.
Participates in any classification or re-classification tasks as directed.
Maintain direct and constant communication with the records department and various program case managers to ensure all information is correct and current and that all mandated conditions are met in the accordance with the court order.
Assist the records department as needed in the processing of court orders.
Act as a liaison between the facility and the incarcerated person when necessary to ensure accurate communication of information.
Review the incarcerated persons visitation list and screen all visitors to ensure they meet current prison standards for entrance to the facility.
Meet with individual incarcerated persons on a bi-weekly basis and conduct file reviews to determine the incarcerated person’s eligibility and submit requests for programs and review current court status.
Initiate and maintain contact with the courts, probation and parole, and other legal entities to ensure the incarcerated person’s case is moving throughout the judicial system.
Conduct warrant searches utilizing JNET. Contact courts if a warrant is discovered to determine whether or not they will initiate a detainer. Submit information and findings on OMS (Offender Management System) and complete all necessary paperwork.
Attends trainings as directed.
Participates on committees or workgroups as designed by leadership.
Performs other related duties as required or requested.
A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, psychology, or related field is preferred.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of incarcerated persons file when needed.
Experience in working on a correctional or secure facility setting is helpful.
Certification as Notary Public preferred
Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
