Summary

The drug and alcohol evaluator interviews people charged with criminal offenses and assesses them based upon the evaluation which includes their substance abuse history and need to treatment.


Essential Duties

Duties of Position: Under general supervision of the Director.

Interviews and assesses individuals charged with criminal offenses to determine if, and what level of care is needed as it relates to the individual’s drug and alcohol use based upon American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.

Organize a summary of records for individuals charged with criminal offenses who will be interviewed.

When doing prison interviews, call each prison unit to inform the unit to send an inmate to the visitation area.

Contacts probation/parole officers if more information is needed to make a recommendation for the individual being interviewed.

Prepares individual ASAM summaries for each person being interviewed according to their level of care and submit to the records department and Diagnostic Services in Media.

Prepares evaluations for submission to the Courts.

When conducting prison interviews, input the level of care in Case Management System (CMS) for each inmate.

Delivers via email the completed evaluation to the appropriate court contacts.

When needed, completes Court Reporting Network evaluations (CRN), in addition to drug and alcohol evaluations for individuals charged with driving under the influence offenses.

Performs related duties as required.


Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences preferred with knowledge of ASAM criteria and ability to be ASAM certified.

Ability to become certified to conduct CRN evaluations.

Additional job-related training seminars to be completed as needed.


Physical Requirements

Ability to open heavy doors leading into the visitation area of the local prison.


Work Environment

Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:30 pm. Prison evaluations will be conducted inside the prison visitation area of the local prison.
