The County of Delaware seeks skilled professionals to play a critical role in the care and maintenance of all County owned facilities. As a General Maintenance Worker 1, you will assist various trades people with the maintenance of the interior and exterior of our commercial buildings and perform minor repairs on furniture and equipment, as well as use power equipment to care for the grounds. The employee will be assigned tasks of increasing scope and complexity as he/she gains familiarity with the work environment.
As a key member of the Delaware County Facilities Department, you will operate under the general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. The employee’s primary work location will be the County of Delaware’s Government Center and Courthouse Complex in Media, PA; however, he/she may be dispatched to assist with repairs at other campuses throughout the County.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Possession of a proper class license valid to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment.
Ability to travel throughout the County and municipalities and navigate buildings and construction sites as required.
Demonstrated record of dependability.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, materials and procedures of basic building maintenance.
Knowledge of the principles, methods, tools, materials and procedures of basic landscaping.
Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks.
Ability to work with diverse people.
Ability to identify problems and forward to correct person.
Ability to accurately follow oral and written directions.
Ability to follow office protocols.
Ability to remain focused on daily operations.
Ability to prepare records and reports of work performed.
Ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks.
Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and supervisors.
Familiarity with Delaware County is a plus.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may encounter jobs that require heavy lifting (up to 50lbs) and frequent bending in addition to the climbing of ladders. They can also be frequently required to stand, walk, sit, drive to and from locations, and talk or hear. Occasionally, there is a need to reach above shoulders; kneel, stoop, crouch or squat; climb stairs; climb ladders; and work with an uncommon level of noise. This position also requires a keen sense of hearing and a strong sense of smell. There are no special vision requirements listed for this position.
Work environment consists predominantly of commercial facilities throughout Delaware County. May require some exposure to heat, cold, dust, dirt, water, hazardous materials and inclement weather.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work is performed primarily inside in both office and mechanical/utility areas.
Some outside observation of conditions or work in progress may be necessary.
Ability to climb and work in high, precarious places.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
This position requires professionalism.
Ability to work extended hours, when needed.
On call responsibilities for emergency response 24/7/365.
Dependable transportation is required.
