The Delaware County Park Police Department Patrol Officer is the entry level rank for the department. The Patrol Officer is assigned a shift and patrol duties in the Courthouse Complex, Fair Acres Complex, all County parks, roads, properties, offices or wherever needed throughout the County. Understand that individuals who apply for this position will potentially be exposed to job hazards and working conditions associated with police work. This position requires the ability to maintain emotional control under stress, exposure to adverse and hazardous working conditions, working inside and outside (moderate exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather), frequent county-wide travel, prolonged workdays, and ability to be on call when necessary.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, Captain and Shift Lieutenant, the Patrol Officer:
Handles incoming emergency calls including, criminal, accidents, medical and maintenance issues with the buildings, parks, roads and complexes.
Assists at the Police Radio Dispatch Desk with phone calls and dispatching calls.
Monitors security and fire alarm systems.
Makes arrests, enforces County ordinances and PA State Crimes & Vehicle Codes.
Operates metal detectors and x-ray machines at all necessary buildings and areas.
Provides traffic control.
Maintains appearance and equipment.
Secures and performs routine checks of all buildings doors and open areas.
Responsible for patrolling 8 hours on the shift as well as working overtime when needed.
Detailed to special events such a concerts, shows and sporting events at county parks and properties.
Required to wear issued Delaware County Park Police Department uniform when on duty.
All necessary equipment related to job duties will be provided following qualification including, but not limited to: firearms, handcuffs, two-way radios, less than lethal equipment, etc.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Act 120 (Municipal Police Training) completion or equivalent certification required.
Be of good reputation and character.
Age 21 or older
Valid PA driver’s license
Have no disqualifying criminal history or active Protection Orders.
Ability to pass security check
Ability to pass a psychological exam.
Ability to pass a medical and drug screening.
Disclosure of any current or previous drug use.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects which could potentially exceed 100lbs.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs.
Attention to detail.
Typing and computer skills.
Communication skills.
Ability to train and certify with all required equipment and weapons. To include non-lethal chemical agents.
Ability to train and certify in all areas and disciplines designated by the department training curriculum.
Ability to work all required shifts and locations.
Under the general supervision of the Chief of Police, Training Division Supervisors, and Field Training Officers, on the job training will include but not be limited to:
Completion of a Six (6) month probationary period.
Training on all shifts, days, hours and locations.
Training and certification with all issued and required equipment.
Review and understanding of all department post orders and policies.
Review of Pennsylvania crimes and traffic codes to include a review of County ordinances.
Emergency vehicle operations.
CPR/AED certification.
Verbal and De-Escalation skills.
Shift Differential for 2nd and 3rd shift officers.
