Summary

The Delaware County Office of Sustainability is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Sustainability Coordinator to support implementation of the County’s Sustainability Plan, Solid Waste Management Plan, and other initiatives, in an effort to make the County and its operations more sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change. Key responsibilities for this role include project management, community engagement and outreach, research, data collection, policy research, social media, and more. The Sustainability Coordinator reports to the County Sustainability Officer and works closely with the Sustainability Commission and other community partners.


Essential Duties

Serves as an advisor to, and member of, the Delaware County Sustainability Commission, helping to coordinate meetings, provide reports, and implement projects.

Assists in the implementation of actions identified in within Delaware County planning documents, such as Sustain Delco, as well as other initiatives and programs. Projects may include energy benchmarking, creating model ordinances, hosting educational events, implementing waste diversion practices, and more.

Creates and promotes outreach materials and content for the County sustainability website and social media platforms.

Conducts policy analysis, development, and advocacy.

Serves as representative on inter-departmental task forces and working groups.

Promotes and facilitates collaboration with County employees to create and support a culture of sustainability.

Supports the development and implementation of measuring and monitoring systems with a strong emphasis on data collection and analysis to effectively track metrics and impact of Sustain Delco.

Writes technical documents, plans, briefs, or educational materials which are catered to specific audiences for communicating complex sustainability topics.

Educates and engages with diverse stakeholders including regional, state and/or federal governments, community groups, residents, schools, businesses, and other community partners to promote understanding and awareness of sustainability issues and solutions. Engagement includes, but is not limited to, public presentations, tabling, hosting of workshops, and more.

Researches and identifies grants and other funding opportunities in support of County sustainability initiatives.

Performs comprehensive project management, seeing projects through the development of scope, outcomes and outputs, identification of key project milestones, stakeholder engagement and feedback, project implementation and maintenance, and reporting.

Practices and climate-related science to inform and create innovative, cost-effective, and efficient practices within County Government and Delaware County community.

Performs tasks, duties and special projects as directed.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to stand or walk. On rare occasions, the employee will need to drive a vehicle.
