Summary

The Veterans Career Advisor is responsible to help Veterans overcome barriers to employment and secure meaningful full or part-time work; to focus on justice-involved Veterans through collaboration with Veterans Court judges, prosecutors, and public defenders as well as the County Jail and Probation/Parole; to seek to help Veterans who are impoverished due to their disability; and to ensure that supportive services including housing and recovery/mental health support will be available to the most vulnerable Veterans through partnerships with housing, transportation, childcare, recovery, and mental health partners.


Essential Duties

Conduct outreach to connect to Veterans using innovative techniques including speaking engagements at Veterans events, meetups focused on physical fitness and wellness, and geo-location digital marketing that reaches Veterans at commonly frequented locations.

Strategic Outreach to Justice-Involved Veterans.

Maintain a database of the various barriers to employment that participants face.

Assist in securing benefits for Veterans who are eligible but never applied.

Conduct outreach to secure referral partners to meet participants' needs related to barriers to employment.

Collaborate with the PA CareerLink® Delaware County Business Service Team, including attending weekly “Employer and Job Seeker Match” meetings, and will actively participate in hiring events and multi-employer job fairs.

Engage with employers who are open to hiring Veterans with barriers to employment including past incarceration and substance use disorder.

Augment Veterans’ awareness of activities and updates through Department’s social media apparatus.

Perform other related duties as required at the direction of the Department Director.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Bachelors Degree preferred, preferably in Mental Health, Social Work, or Social Services; U.S. military Veteran preferred but not required.

Must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written skills.

Excellent presentation skills; strong computer skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Savvy in use of social media.

Comfort in attending Veterans Court, visiting the George Hill County Jail, and meeting with parole and probation officers.

Ability to educate employers in high-priority occupations about transferable skills.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; kneel, stoop, squat or crouch; and lift items. Occasionally, employee will be required to walk and drive a vehicle to and from different locations.

There are no special vision requirements listed for this position.


Work Environment

Will work in an office setting the majority of time.


Other

May require use of a private vehicle.

Confidentiality is crucial to this position.

This position requires professionalism.

There will be a need to work extended hours.

Must be able to attend seminars and lectures, as necessary.
