Delco Arts Week being held September 21 to 28

The Arts Come Alive in Delco This Fall!

Delaware County Council joined members of the Delaware County Arts Consortium on Aug. 21 to announce the first annual Delco Arts Week being held September 21- 28.

During the week more than 50 different performances, exhibits, workshops, concerts, tours, and other events will be taking place at 35 venues throughout Delaware County.

“Delaware County is a county rich in culture and we are blessed with talented artists and performers who enhance the fabric of our community,” said Councilman Kevin Madden. “We have concerts, shows, art exhibits, museums and classes across the county for residents to enjoy and participate in. The arts are thriving in Delco and in September they will come alive even more so.”

The Delaware County Arts Consortium, formed in 2009 has representatives from ten different County organizations and the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance. They strive to advance the economic vitality of the nonprofit arts and culture community and promote the value of Delaware County’s cultural resources to the local community and beyond.

The group has worked to create Delco Arts Week to showcase the arts in Delco and engage and introduce residents to the many unique artistic venues and experiences that Delaware County has to offer. Some of the events include guided tours of the Andrew Wyeth Studio and the Hedgerow Theatre, a Fine Arts and Crafts Festival at the Community Arts Center in Swarthmore, an art gallery exhibit at Harrah’s Casino and a watercolor painting class to name just a few. 
                       
During their public council meeting, Delaware County Council presented a resolution to the members of the Delaware County Arts Consortium in recognition of the work they have done to promote the arts in Delaware County.
