Delco Going Red for Heart Health!

Delaware County participating in National Wear Red Day on February 1

Delaware County Council, joined by members of the American Heart Association and Delaware County Intercommunity Health declared February 1, 2019, as “Wear Red Day” in Delaware County during the public council meeting held on Jan. 23.

The American Heart Association launched the Wear Red Day campaign in 2003 to raise awareness about heart disease in women. Each year, National Wear Red Day is held the first Friday of every February. Men and women across the country are encouraged to wear red to in solidarity to raise awareness about heart disease and take steps to learn more about heart disease and to make heart-healthy decisions.

On Feb. 1, in partnership with the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health and the County’s Wellness Program, various health partners will be offering free blood pressure screenings and heart health resources in the Government Center lobby (201 W. Front St., Media, PA) from 11:00a.m.-1:30 p.m. County employees and members of the public are encouraged to get their blood pressure taken, to learn about risk factors, the importance of diet and exercise, and the signs of stroke and heart attack.

“Heart disease has been called the silent killer because it often strikes without noticeable symptoms,” said Vice Chair Colleen Morrone. “Fortunately, women can take steps to understand their unique symptoms and to begin to reduce their risk of heart disease. The more a woman knows about heart disease, the better chance she has of preventing it.”
