Delaware County Council joined members of the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) during the May 1 public meeting to recognize May as Older Americans Month.
Nearly one in every five County residents is a senior. County Council recognizes the contributions of seniors to businesses, volunteer organizations, veterans’ groups, places of worship, schools, and many other valuable organizations and activities. The County values seniors each and every day, but in May shines a spotlight on their contributions.
In 1963, May was designated as national Older Americans Month, a month to celebrate the vitality and achievements of older residents. The 2019 theme is “Connect. Create. Contribute.” This year’s theme encourages older adults to
Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
Older Americans Month also celebrates the many ways in which older adults make a difference in our communities. More than ever before, older Americans are working longer and engaging in their communities. Seniors are striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and advocating for themselves and others.
During the month of May, County Council encourages seniors to attend a variety of events hosted by the County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) including the Senior Living Expo, being held on May 4 from 9:00a.m – 1:00p.m. at Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Racetrack in Chester.
During the meeting, council commended COSA Director, Denise Stewart and the entire COSA staff for the work they do to help seniors maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life. Information on COSA’s programs, events, and resources can be found here: https://www.delcosa.org/
