Delaware County Council attended the Senior Games Winner’s Circle reception on July 16 at the Drexelbook. The reception is the culminating event of the 2019 Delaware County Senior Games, held in June at venues across the county. This year 680 athletes, ages 50 and older participated in events including swimming, track, bowling, bocce and pool. The oldest athlete Sye Brandman, 103-years-old of Philadelphia, earned a gold medal in Singles Bowling. The oldest female athletes, both 92, were Mary DePaolo-Roach of Havertown and June Robbins, of Media. Mary competed in both Singles and Team Bowling and captured a gold medal. June competed in four events: Horseshoes, Wii Bowling, Mini Golf, and Track and Field, and earned one gold and two silver medals. Council also recognized Anne Shuster, 90-years-old, from Havertown. After participating in the Senior Games for 29 years, she is retiring from the games as she plans to move from the area to be with family. Over the years, Anne has participated in most of the Senior Games events and has medaled in almost every one. The Delaware County Senior Games are sponsored by Delaware County Council, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Destination Delco, and the County of Delaware Services for the Aging (COSA).
