Delaware County is a member of the Pennsylvania Statewide Prevention, Intervention, and Treatment Program, which includes the planning and evaluation of community drug and alcohol prevention, intervention, and treatment services.
The purpose of the Planning Council is to advise, review, evaluate, recommend, and advocate actions related to the delivery of alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention, and treatment services. The Planning Council reviews an annual comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention, and treatment plans to be submitted to Delaware County Council and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs for approval.
The Planning Council has between 11 and 15 members, approved by County Council for a three-year term. The Planning Council must include at least one individual from each of the following six categories: Criminal Justice, Business or Industry, Labor, Education, Medicine, and Psycho-Social Professional. The remaining members should include the categories of Student, Elderly, Recovering Person and Community. Current openings are for members representing the Psycho-Social Profession, Labor and Medicine. One of the appointments must be aged 25 years or under. The Planning Council meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
