Released: September 15, 2020

Delaware County held its first public flu shot clinic of the season on September 15 at the Philadelphia Sikh Society in Millbourne. Over 100 residents were vaccinated.

All residents are urged to get a flu shot. Receiving a flu shot is the first and most important step in preventing the flu and decreasing the risk of severe flu-related illnesses. Each year, 200,000 people in the United States are hospitalized due to complications from the flu. The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older should get vaccinated against the flu.

The County’s next public flu shot clinic will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 10am-4pm at the U.S. Army Reserve in Upland. (500 West 24th St., Upland PA 19013)

Flu shots will be available to all county residents who are 3 years of age or older. Residents are asked to pre-register by calling (610) 891-6129. Walk-ups will also be allowed.

Flu shots will be provided to both insured and uninsured residents. There are no out-of-pocket expenses or co-pays for those with health insurance. Individuals are asked to bring their insurance card.

“We are working to make it as safe and convenient as possible for residents to get vaccinated,” said Delaware County Council Vice Chair Dr. Monica Taylor. “The clinics are drive-through and are intended to make it safer and more convenient for older residents, those with disabilities, and parents with small children, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

Rite Aid pharmacy personnel, members of the Delaware County Medical Reserve Corps, and Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health are coordinating and staffing the clinics.
