For the 31st year, the Mad Poets Society presents the Delaware County Young Poets Competition, and is accepting entries from students throughout Delaware County, from first grade to twelfth grade. The deadline is Monday, March 9, 2020. Submit one original poem per student to any public library in Delaware County. Poems will be judged by grade level. Original poems must be typed or written neatly on an 8 ½ by 11 size sheet of paper (no odd size or construction paper, please).
The following information should appear on the back of each poem: the student’s name, grade, school, and a parent’s contact phone number and email address for notification (winners will be notified by email or phone; the school contact info alone is insufficient.) Winners will also be listed on the Delaware County Libraries website in April.
The Young Poets Competition will culminate in a special awards event on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., featuring the thirty-six winners of the poetry competition (1st through 3rd prize in 1st through 12th grade) who will read their winning poems at the Redwood Community Playhouse on 6th Street in Upland, Delaware County. The contest is sponsored by the Mad Poets Society, Delaware County Libraries, Pennsylvania Poetry Society, Rose Tree Media Optimists Club, Keystone State Literacy Association: Delaware, and Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Admission is free.
