Delaware County Elections completed recounts of two local races, including the mayoral race in Eddystone and the commissioner race in Upper Chichester’s 4th Ward, and has also completed the county’s portion of the statewide recount of the office of Judge of the Commonwealth Court. The results of all three recounts affirmed the initial results reported for the Nov. 2, 2021 Municipal Election.
In all three recounts, the County used teams that were designated by the two major political parties to transcribe any damaged or unreadable ballots.
In the mayoral race for Eddystone, the original tally was 227 to 224 in favor of Democrat Rob Yannuzzi over Republican Bill Bolton, and the recount found a one-vote change to 228 to 224, after a single ballot with a recorded overvote had a clear vote for Mr. Yannuzzi next to his printed name and again in the write-in area.
Similarly, in the Commissioner race in Upper Chichester (4th Ward), the original tally was 798 to 752 in favor of Democrat Joseph W. Neary over Republican Frank Sill, and the recount resulted in a one-vote change to 799 to 752 in favor of Mr. Neary, when an additional provisional ballot was allowed to be counted after the voter’s identify and voter registration status was confirmed by the County.
The recounts included observers and participants from both major political parties. There were no objections to the proceedings. The Court of Common Pleas will next receive motions from the candidates on whether the Board of Elections may proceed with certifying the two local elections.
Unofficial results for the Nov. 2, 2021 Municipal Election and official results for previous elections (through 2008) are available on the Delco Votes! website at delcopa.gov/vote.
