Released: May 7, 2021
The Delaware County Elections Department is seeking additional paid poll workers for the upcoming Tuesday, May 18, 2021 Municipal Primary Election. Since last fall, the Elections Department has developed new training materials and online training options and is asking qualified registered voters to step forward to help during the upcoming primary.
Poll Worker Pay
Delaware County has one of the more generous Poll Worker pay scales in the country. Poll Workers are paid by the County and are not volunteers.
Judges of Elections receive $150 per service precinct (maximum two precincts), not including training pay.
Majority Party Inspectors and Minority Party Inspectors, Machine Operators, and Clerks receive $140 per service precinct (maximum two precincts), not including training pay.
Additional training pay of $130 is paid to all of the above who: (1) complete in-person or online review of the Election Day guide; (2) pass the poll worker test; and (3) then serve successfully on Election Day in a precinct or as a standby ready to be assigned.
Signing Up to Serve
To qualify to serve as a Poll Worker, individuals must be a registered voter in Delaware County. Interested individuals may sign-up by sending an email to delcopollworkers@co.delaware.pa.us. A member of the Elections staff will reach out to interested residents with more information.
Responsibilities of the Job
Poll workers provide a critical role in protecting the integrity of the election and ensuring all eligible voters cast their ballot. Responsibilities include signing in registered voters, issuing ballots, explaining voting procedures and the use of voting equipment, and monitoring the conduct of the election. Elections require poll workers who are honest, hard-working and ready to work well with others. Workers must be able to serve from approximately 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Training Options
Understanding election processes is necessary for all Poll Workers, and the Delaware County Elections Department has created several easy-to-understand training options that ensure that both new and experienced Poll Workers are prepared and comfortable on Election Day. Multiple in-person trainings and Q&A teleconferences are available before Election Day on May 18. Visit delcopa.gov/polltraining for details.
