Juvenile Detention Board of Managers Holds First Meeting July 20

The newly formed Juvenile Detention Board of Managers will hold its first meeting on July 20 at 4:30p.m. in the County Council Meeting Room, located on the first floor of the Government Center (201 W. Front St., Media, PA.) Members of the public are invited to attend.

During its June 2 public meeting, Delaware County Council unanimously voted to approve the creation of a new oversight board for Juvenile Detention. The vote was proceeded by a second reading of an ordinance calling on the creation of the board. Council first introduced the creation of an oversight board for Juvenile Detention during its May 5 meeting, in the aftermath of the closure of the facility in Lima. Built on the successful model of the Jail Oversight Board, which oversees the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, the new 10-member Delaware County Board of Managers of Juvenile Detention consists of three members of Council, the County Controller, and six members of the public.

Delaware County is dedicated to ensuring that all citizens live in safety, which is a commitment consistent with the County's Juvenile Detention Board of Manager’s mission that juvenile offenders are held accountable for their offenses while promoting a positive social change for their rehabilitation.
