Released: October 21, 2022

Chester Water Authority (CWA) is a Pennsylvania municipal authority established in 1939 for the purpose of providing potable water to its customers in western Delaware County and portions of southern Chester County. It is a public water supplier that operates under the jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Municipality Authorities Act (MAA). CWA delivers potable water for domestic, commercial, and industrial uses in addition to providing water for irrigation and fire protection services to more than 44,000 direct customers, and, through bulk water sales, to other water utilities and municipalities in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. The population served directly or indirectly by CWA is estimated to be greater than 200,000.

CWA is directed by a nine-member Board of Directors, three of which are appointed by the Chester City Council, three by the Chester County Commissioners and three by Delaware County Council, each of whom serve five-year terms. The Board currently meets monthly at 2:00 p.m. at the Concord Township Municipal Building.

Under the MAA, board members appointed by the Chester County Commissioners and Delaware County Council must reside in a town, township or borough which receives services from CWA. A full description of CWA’s service area can be found at: https://chesterwater.com/about/rates/.
