Delaware County Council Member Christine Reuther was excited to join seniors at the Redwood Community Center in Upland Park on August 21 to help celebrate National Senior Citizens Day and kick off the County’s Memory Lane Gallery Project, which invites seniors to share their favorite memories and photos for a collective art exhibition that will be displayed at various Delaware County Libraries’ locations later this year.
Organized in collaboration with the Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA), Delaware County Libraries, and the Department of Parks & Recreation, the festive afternoon provided seniors with a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends, make new ones, and contribute to the collective history of Delaware County.
Seniors from across the county gathered to share their cherished memories, swap stories, and enjoy the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Many brought along old photographs, reliving moments of joy, insight, and nostalgia.
“The turnout was wonderful,” said County Council Member Reuther. “It was truly a joy to see our community’s seniors come together to celebrate their lives and contributions. The stories they shared were filled with wisdom, humor, and love, and they remind us of the important role our seniors play in shaping the fabric of Delaware County.”
The Memory Lane Gallery Project is ongoing. Submissions of photos and memories are being accepted through Saturday, August 31. Seniors can contribute their memories and photos online at https://form.jotform.com/242314552393050 or by email at hmorgan@delcolibraries.org.
Seniors enrich our community with their diverse life stories, spanning decades of history, growth, and change. Their experiences—whether through careers, raising families, or volunteering—have helped shape the strong foundation of Delaware County today. By celebrating our seniors through events like the Memory Lane Gallery Project, Delaware County reaffirms its commitment to honoring the history, legacy, and ongoing contributions of its senior residents.
