DCHD The Green Community Clean Up

Today, April 19, 2024, the Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) mobilized its effort of community service with the launch of its "Clean the Green" initiative. As part of DCHD’s second year anniversary celebration and gift to the community, this event marked not just a milestone for the department but also a significant step towards cleaner and healthier community.

With enthusiasm and determination, DCHD staff, alongside local park personnel, gathered at three designated locations across Delaware County. With trash bags, paintbrushes, plants, and gardening tools DCHD staff members set out to clean up and beautify these community parks into vibrant spaces.

The DCHD team engaged in various activities tailored to each park's needs. From picking up trash and litter to painting playground equipment and planting shrubs, every effort was dedicated to enhancing the beauty and functionality of these public spaces.

"I'm incredibly proud of what the Delaware County Health Department is capable of accomplishing. Today's event demonstrated our commitment to enhancing community health and well-being, and was an enjoyable effort for all involved." - said Delaware County Health Department Director Melissa Lyon.

Park Locations:
Naylors Run Park
500 Beverly Blvd, Upper Darby, PA 19082

Upland Park-Redwood Senior Center
280 6th St, Brookhaven, PA 19015

Wesley R. Coale Veterans Memorial Park
3005 Edgemont Ave. Parkside, Pa. 19015

Clean public areas and natural spaces boost community pride and health. Litter and excessive trash degrade the natural environment. It can also create hazards for unsuspecting wildlife and attract disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents. The "DCHD Clean the Green" initiative contributes to a cleaner environment, supports community engagement, and continues to build DCHD employees’ connection with the community they serve.
