DCHD Celebrates National CPR and AED Awareness Week

Free CPR Certification Training Offered to Delaware County Residents

In promotion of National CPR and AED Awareness Week (June 1–7), Delco Revive, a Delaware County Health Department initiative, is offering two free Basic Life Support (BLS) cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification sessions to residents at the Delaware County Wellness Center at Yeadon. Cardiac emergencies are tragic and can happen at any time. With these critical life-saving skills, residents will be prepared to intervene with cardiovascular life support skills anywhere. Registration for these sessions is required.

Cardiac arrest is when the heart stops beating suddenly and unexpectedly. These training sessions include high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants. Instructions for early use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). AEDs are portable, life-saving devices designed to treat cardiac arrest. Sessions also include foreign-body airway obstruction or choking relief for adults and infants.

Training Sessions:
Tuesday, June 3, 2025: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Thursday, June 5, 2025: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Location:
Delaware County Wellness Center at Yeadon
125 Chester Ave.
Yeadon, PA 19050

According to the American Heart Association, about 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in homes. Often, community members are the first to respond in such emergencies. Immediate CPR can drastically increase a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival.

National CPR and AED Awareness Week was established in 2007 through a collaborative effort by the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, and the National Safety Council. The week is dedicated to highlighting the critical importance of CPR and AED training in saving lives. cpr.heart.org
