DCHD Delaware County Health Department Unveils 2024 Annual Report

Building Partnerships to Promote a Healthier Delaware County

The Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) is pleased to share its 2024 Annual Report, which highlights significant public health strides across the county. Since its establishment in 2022, DCHD has worked to enhance the health and well-being of Delaware County residents. This report showcases the department's efforts in promoting health equity, preventing disease, and protecting the environment.

Building Healthier Communities Together

The 2024 Annual Report, "Empowering Communities Together: Building Partnerships to Promote a Healthier Delaware County" is a shining example of what is possible when communities and partners come together for a common goal. Over the past year, DCHD partnered with local organizations, businesses, and government agencies to address public health challenges and improve health outcomes for all residents.

Key Achievements:

  • Public Health Initiatives:  DCHD successfully implemented a wide range of public health programs, from food establishment licensing and inspection to community health screenings and vaccination campaigns. These initiatives are aimed at preventing the spread of diseases and promoting healthier lifestyles.
  • Data-Driven Insights:  The department completed the county’s first Community Health Assessment (CHA) and then collaborated with partners to initiate the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), leveraging local data to identify health disparities and inform future public health priorities. The CHA’s findings will continue to guide the development of the CHIP, which addresses the county’s most pressing health needs.
  • Innovative Programs:  DCHD introduced several groundbreaking initiatives, including the creation of an electronic inspection management system and the development of a liquid waste hauler program. The department also re-established the county’s Immunization Coalition.
  • Emergency Preparedness:  DCHD took proactive measures to enhance public health emergency preparedness, conducting surveillance for diseases like tuberculosis and measles, and distributing over 1,700 Narcan kits as part of overdose prevention efforts.

Looking Ahead

As DCHD enters its third year, the department remains focused on expanding its services and strengthening partnerships to better serve the community. Plans for 2025 include further developing the CHIP, increasing public outreach, and continuing to promote health equity across the county.
