Initiative Provides Free Life-Saving Resources and Training for Local Residents and Organizations
The Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) proudly announced the launch of the Delco Revive campaign, an initiative dedicated to providing free life-saving resources and training to local residents and organizations. This initiative includes the distribution of NARCAN® nasal spray, Xylazine test strips, Fentanyl test strips, and wound care kits. As well as free CPR certification and Stop the Bleed training.
County and DCHD leaders introduced the Delco Revive campaign at a news conference, where they outlined how residents, organizations, schools, and businesses could access these critical resources and training sessions. The event took place at the Delaware County Wellness Center in Yeadon on Tuesday, May 21.
NARCAN® nasal spray, also known as Naloxone, is an overdose-reversing medication. It is easy to use and can save someone's life instantly. Fentanyl and Xylazine test strips are inexpensive drug testing technologies that can detect any level of fentanyl or xylazine in substances in seconds. All of these tools are available at all three DCHD office locations in Chester, Yeadon, and Eddystone. CPR certification and Stop the Bleed Training appointments are available for free through the Delaware County Wellness line.
Melissa Lyon, Director of the Delaware County Health Department, and Phil Waibel, a survivor and Primary Therapist / Law Enforcement Treatment Initiative Coordinator at MVP Recovery, were present to speak at the event.
“We may never know if and when that day will come that someone struggling decides to seek recovery. -said Delaware County Health Department Director Melissa Lyon. “I urge everyone to carry the tools to gift one more day of life.”
DCHD personnel demonstrated the proper use of NARCAN® nasal spray, "stop the bleed" wound kits, and the application of Xylazine and Fentanyl test strips. Additionally, there was an overview of CPR administration.
