DCHD Librarians Learn Life-Saving Skills Through Delco Revive

MIDDLETOWN, PA - It was an important day for improving community health and safety as the Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) successfully conducted one of its comprehensive life-saving training sessions for librarians at the Middletown Free Library. As part of the Delco Revive Program, this initiative provided vital skills in administering NARCAN® Nasal Spray and conducting “Stop the Bleed” training expertise, equipping librarians with the tools necessary to act during critical emergencies.

Training sessions were held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and saw participation from librarians across the county. DCHD personnel demonstrated the application of NARCAN® nasal spray, a crucial intervention for opioid overdoses, and led hands-on exercises for “Stop the Bleed,” a program designed to teach individuals to control severe bleeding and potentially save lives before emergency responders arrive.

Delaware County’s librarians interact with residents every day and are now better prepared to respond effectively to life-threatening situations. Through this training, more of Delaware County’s public service workers have the tools to save a life in the event of an emergency.

Delco Revive Program: This initiative is part of the Delco Revive program, which offers free resources such as NARCAN® nasal spray, Xylazine and Fentanyl test strips, and wound care kits to residents, organizations, schools, and businesses.

The Delco Revive program is supported by Delaware County’s Opioid Settlement Fund and the Delaware County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), also known as the “Blue Army.” Their collaboration ensures that these critical resources and training are widely accessible, enhancing the community's capacity to handle emergencies.
