"Early identification of breast cancer through mammogram screening offers immense benefits," said Delaware County Health Department Director Melissa Lyon. "Detecting cancer in its early stages likely reduces the chance of spread, often leading to less aggressive treatments and better outcomes."

Recent data from 2016-2020 shows that there is a higher risk of new cases of breast cancer in late stages in black women living in Delaware County than in surrounding areas. Black women had a higher incidence rate for new late-stage cases of 52.7 per 100,000 compared to Chester and Philadelphia counties. DCHD encourages women to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their health.
